Legion Roads is a Roman road-strategy game for your phone. Forts produce troops, roads carry them, and a match is won by holding more forts than the other legion when the dust settles. Drag to send, tap to fortify, two spells in your pocket. Five minutes a battle.

How to play

Forts and roads

Every fort you hold produces troops. Roads join the forts, and troops only travel along them, so the map is the argument: a fort with three roads is worth defending, a fort at the end of one is a place to rest. Double-tap a fort to upgrade it; the build takes time and the garrison keeps producing while it does.

Drag to send

Drag from a fort you own to any fort a road reaches and let go. The garrison streams out in batches, so a fort mid-send still has men at home. The column on the left sets how much goes: a quarter, half or everything. RALLY empties the fort and keeps it emptying as troops arrive, until you say stop.

Two spells

Choose two of five before the march: Shield, Lightning, Levy, Plague and Tremor. They sit in two sockets at the bottom of the screen, and levelling them in the Armory is the long game between matches. Chests from the daily tribute, orders, ranked wins and first campaign victories hold the cards.

A worthy foe, and a fair count.

Press TO BATTLE and the queue looks for a player whose rating sits near yours, widening the search the longer you wait; if nobody is found within ten seconds, a bot takes the other seat. Both phones run the same battle in lockstep, twenty frames a second. When one legion falls, the server replays the whole match on its own and judges the result by that replay, never by what a phone claims.

Everyone starts at 1 000, a Tribune. Your rank is a band over the rating and is shown under your name in the menus.

Questions

Asked at the gate

Is it free?
Yes. Gold and gems can be bought in the Treasury to open chests sooner, and the daily tribute chest opens after a short rewarded ad. No ad ever plays inside a match.
Can I play offline?
You can play the campaign without a connection, but chests and verified progress need the server: a battle started while online is kept on the phone and sent up when you reconnect. Ranked needs a connection.
How do you stop cheating?
The server replays every finished match from the recorded commands and counts only what the replay says. A modified client can lie to itself, not to the ladder.
Which phones?
Android now, through Google Play. An App Store build is in preparation. Matches are designed for a phone held sideways, one thumb to send and one to cast.
Do I need an account?
No. The game makes a guest profile for you on first launch, with no name, e-mail or password asked. Linking Google Play Games from the settings keeps your rank, armory and progress when you change phones.
